Ridge Racer 7 is the seventh installment of the Ridge Racer series that originally debuted with the PlayStation and launched with the PS2 as Ridge Racer 5. Ridge Racer 7 is one of the launch titles for the PS3, featuring 1080p video at 60 frames per second.

There are about 40 cars in the game, and for the first time in the series, the cars are fully customizable. Players can choose different types of NOS, engines, tires, and the usual. You can also make cosmetic changes such as changing the paint or adding spoilers. The cars are now classified by their drift (very tight to the road vs drifting around curves).

Ridge Racer 7 features 14 player online multiplayer for free. The online network features sports coverage—so if you win a race, the results will be reported across the network on a sports ticker (just like TV!).

Ridge Racer 7 3D

There was a time that console owners looked forward to home ports of Ridge Racer arcade games. Now, the reverse is true. Bandai Namco is taking a home-based Ridge Racer game and turning it into an arcade attraction. Ridge Racer 7 is being reborn as Ridge Racer 7 3D Version. The arcade attraction makes use of a special television that uses filters to make the images come out at players. You have to wear special glasses to see the effect, although different from classic 3D glasses, these look like standard single-colored shades. For bystanders, the game screen looks blurry, like two slightly displaced images overlain.
