Nintendo has just announced (for the first time formally) that a new Pikmin is on the way.

During a developer roundtable at E3 2008, Nintendo creative mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed for the first time that Nintendo is indeed bringing back the beloved GameCube franchise, and we can only assume it's going to be for Wii.

Details on the game are sparse right now, but Miyamoto did casually mention "We're making Pikmin" during the roundtable presentation. He hinted earlier that a new Pikmin could be on the way both in previous conferences and in our recent interview with him but now it's officially official. Pikmin is making a return.

Nintendo has announced that it will be releasing "Wii de Asobu" (Play on Wii) Selections, GameCube titles remade for the Wii. Not including last year's Resident Evil 4 remake, President Satoru Iwata revealed at today's Japanese press conference that Pikmin will be the first title to receive a Wii makeover. We're really hoping this isn't the Pikmin title Miyamoto revealed at E3.

Shigeru Miyamoto just dropped the most mega of tons over at Nintendo's 2008 E3 Developer Roundtable, and in the most understated way possible. Speaking to a crowd of around 100 press members, Shiggy casually announced: "We're making Pikmin." And that was it: a mere three words, but some of the most precious we've heard yet during this year's E3. You can see the team's response above, but how about you? Delighted, or what?
