Superman Returns: The Videogame is loosely based on the movie Superman Returns: The Videogame. The game features the same voice acting as the movie, including Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. As usual, Superman must protect Metropolis from supervillain threat. The game includes Metallo and other classic villains from the Superman universe that were not featured in the film.

The game is very open, with an 80 square mile map where Superman can fly around at will. The unique dynamic of this game is that as Superman, the player is indestructible-you cannot die. This does not mean you cannot lose. Although Superman is invincible, Metropolis is not, so players will have to watch out how much damage Superman’s battles with super villains inflicts on the people of Metropolis. The player will have to learn how to control Superman's abilities. Using any one of Superman's abilities at too great an intensity may result in great collateral damage to the human civilians and Metropolis.
