I think what could help Sony in the long run in both the format war and the console war is that Blu-Ray can be used or both movies and games. Taking the Blu-ray drive out of the PS3 removes the advantage it holds over the X360 on the basis that PS3 games can therefore be anything up to 50GB which can only improve the quality of games. That in itself will help sell PS3 and therefore Blu-Ray systems in distribution.
It is looking more and more like Sony will have to reduce the price of it's Blu-Ray players and thus PS3 before/in and around the holidays. Otherwise they risk HD-DVD closing the gap blu-ray has at the moment and having more momentum than it going into 2008.
