First, I would like to agree with zeromous about people down bidding bad news. But on a personal note I down bid things that don't add to the conversation. So, in your case you really hurt yourself in this topic not because of what you wrote, but how you wrote it. I promote discussion, and will always down bid people who all out attack someone's discussion point and claim it to be "moot." Specially when it logically makes sense.
To add to the discussion here, I would like to agree with welshbloke. This wont kill Sony's chances of being a great gaming system. That is actually decided by the gamers. And gamers make that decision on the games available. Should Sony increase the number of games in all genres, then they should see an increase in console sales.
But right now, Sony's only selling point is Blu Ray movies PLUS gaming for 1 low price. And that is the point of this. Should Blu Ray movies stop being made, why would you pay more for the PS3 over the Xbox 360, other then the games?
Now, I also have to disagree with zeromous on something. Consoles DO NOT drive a media format. I know you want to believe this, but it cannot be true. If that were true, where is UMD players? Where are the UMD movies? They are out of most stores, and forgotten by most PSP owners. CDs succeeded because it was 1 million times better then tapes, and had like no competition. DVDs had no competition (other then that +/- bull) and won for the same reason of CDs beat tapes. Also, Sega CD did not drive CDs. The playstation came out way after CDs won as the new format, and the Playstation 2 came out AFTER the DVDs showed they were there to stay. But, the PS2 did help the DVDs take off faster because it was a very cheap option for a DVD player at the time.
