@Laoldar, If Sony does cut the price this holiday people will think theres less of a chance of the price being cut again before March, if they do not cut the price people will think oh its going to happen in March then. I think people are less likely to wait if they see a price cut this holiday and more likely to wait if they do not.
I think they ended the 20gb because it was already $100 cheaper, they couldn't handle lowering the price of that unit any further, so they did away with it and cut the price of the 60gb. It was a smart move. They're not forcing people to choose the 80gb there is still plenty of 60gbs available, and they said when the 60gb sells out they will look into proving another option to consumers.
Why would they introduce a 40gb SKU? Because by the holidays it will be at lower production costs than the 20gb was this summer, and they've made production changes and potentially removal of bells + whistles that will allow them to sell it at $399. They've made the changes to allow them to introduce an SKU this cheap this holiday. 40gb would not contradict their plans for downloadable content, it is enough space for the majority of people. And it is very easy to put a larger HDD into the PS3 yourself.
They've made changes within the company to help better deal with the affect of PS3 pricecuts. I don't know why you're still going against what I've said, Jesse has said, and analysts have said regarding Sony introducing a cheaper SKU this holiday. They need to gain marketshare, they can't just let 360 & Wii pull away so quickly.
You believe the 60gb didn't stimulate sales so much because they lost half of the gain through August that they had made in July? What do you think sales would be in August if there never was a pricecut...
