Articles like this really just show a bias for the author.
Remember when the DS came out? We saw the same arguments complaining about minigames, etc and how the PSP was going to be what everyone wanted. When you have a brand new control scheme available (touch controls, motion sensing), it takes time for developers to learn how to use it properly. Look at how early hands-on of Medal of Honor Heroes are compared with CoD 3 or Vanguard...it took developers a year to figure out good FPS controls. Mario Galaxy is getting near perfect scores and being called the pinnacle of the 3D platformer. Smash Bros Brawl is getting rave reviews as a fighter.
If some gamers miss out on fun creative games because it doesn't have the latest shiny effect, I feel sorry for them. There's more to gaming than the highest polygon count.
The article really loses me when they say that the Playstation Eye, PSP/PS3 connectivity and "Scene It" are more impressive than the Wii. With the Wii outselling its competitors in every market for a year, I think it's time people stop posting articles online about how it's a "fad". It's quite possible for several types of games (and systems) to exist, so why not be happy with all the choices available?
