What is everyone's thoughts on new bundles and/or price cuts for the 360 & PS3 sometime before July? I've heard 80 gb PS3's are hard to find in stores now. I don't think Sony is going to stick with only one SKU when it would only offer 40gb. Sure people can put in a 3rd party HDD but mainstream users are not going to know how to go about doing that.
I believe that Sony & MS are going to make either a price cut or new bundles sometime soon. Definitely before July, but perhaps just before GTA IV releases, especially MS.
Given that 80gb PS3's are scarce, I would think Sony is going to release a new SKU to replace the 80gb. Perhaps an SKU with an HDD as large, if not larger, than the 360 Elite's 120gb. Having the MGS bundle at 80gb would not be a problem, MS did the same lower HDD size Halo bundle itself, while having a standalone Elite with larger HDD.
Sony could very well release a PS3 with a 160gb HDD for $499, maybe with a packin game or more likely a Bluray movie. Sometime just before GTA IV. Less likely is for Sony to make a price cut on PS3 just before GTA IV, still possible though. Maybe a $50 or more likely a $30 price cut on all PS3 SKUs.
The most likely thing to happen is for MS to make a pricecut on 360 in NA just before GTA IV. I would expect a $30-$50 price cut just before GTA IV releases. I think it is less likely for a new larger HDD SKU from MS.
Of course they may wait until just after GTA IV releases. If MS does not get significantly more GTA IV sales than Sony, then they will definitely have a price cut, bundle, or some move soon after to try to get more hardware sales.
It's harder to predict Sony's moves. They are less likely to introduce a cut or bundle before GTA IV, and a little less likely than MS after it releases. If GTA IV does much better on 360, then Sony may very well price cut or bundle at that point. However, they may be stubborn and wait to see how MGS3 does. I'd love to know what you guys think about all of this.
