@FoxHoundADAM, I agree that it'll be confusing to consumers. The presentations really made it seem like the controller could act as sort of a portable device. That kind of confusion could definitely hurt the already somewhat struggling 3DS.
That's a good point about the PS Vita, especially the name. I think the crossover may be greater than it initially seems. Sony has already said that there will be connectivity between Vita and the PS3. One of the demos showed a game being played on the PS3, then continued from the Vita. I saw some other demos with the Vita acting as sort of a ancillary display that would show inventory or map for a game on the PS3. That all sounds really similar to how the Wii U controller is being used.
It seems some Nintendo shareholders aren't so confident about the Wii U either since apparently their stock dropped 5% after the announcement.
