@Gaara42, Probably because September is a 5-week reporting period plus the Halo release, while October has 4 weeks and possibly a much lower Halo effect.
@Gaara42, Maybe because people believe Halo moved hardware in September and that goes down in October? The today drop could have been me, moved a lot of money around today.
Does anyone have an explanation for the drop in number of Xbox360s sold in October when September and November numbers are both higher and around the same levels?
I think the October future should be trading more around 3DKP lower than the September if last year is anything to go by. September 2006 Xbox360 sold: 250,000 October 2006 Xbox360 sold: 217,772 Also, sale of the Xbox360 might continue to increase as people continue to pick up Halo 3 and a Xbox360 to go with it (I know several people who are planning to this month).
Well I think they need to react reasonably quickly. Especially in Europe if they are truely going to try and take Europe then they need to counter this move by Sony and quickly.
Whilst I think Sony removing BC from its new SKU is a mistake I still think this price will shift considerable units although not as many as Sony would like.
I would expect MS to maybe wait another month give the new bundles a chance to filter through and assess the impact of the Sony 40gb unit. If the newly priced Sony units shift in good numbers then they need to stomp on them now before the years end. If they give them the opportunity to gain ground now it will only make it harder when the main AAA titles emerge from Sony in March.
My verdict: Let Sony have a go for a month whilst Halo is still carrying momentum then wallop them with a major price cut in the month leading up to Christmas in addition this should be marketed in the main towards the new battlegound "Europe".
This certainly smacks of desperation from Sony and Microsoft should counter it hard effectively knocking the stuffing out of the opposition and reducing the March\April effect.
I think we'll see Microsoft sit back and wait out this year. Between Halo 3 and the Holiday season, they shouldn't have any problems moving consoles. Late January could be a good time for a new price cut to help boost sales into early Spring.
