Built in wireless for what? Certainly not for playing Blu-Ray movies... All the features you list are nice for a gaming system, but why would a person care who just wants to watch movies? Media center (most have a PC already), harddrive (see above)?
My point is that the PS3 doesn't offer anything for someone who isn't already interested in the games. If someone was looking at playing games along with watching HD movies, the PS3 was already the only option (the 360 HDDVD addon was pretty half baked, and costly).
Yes...the PS3 is upgradable to 2.0...what I meant was that for the next while until all the BD players on the market are 2.0 upgradable/compatible (which should be any new manufactured after Nov 07) the PS3 is still a top choice for even just the media hound (though I agree on the non-stackable argument)
The PS3 is the Blu-Player to get right now no doubt but I think standalones will be cheaper this coming holiday and get a big push now there is the one format. I'm of the opinion the Blu-Ray factor on PS3 is very much overplayed. It's a different situation with Blu-Ray compared to DVD and the PS2.
I'm sure the PS3 will be firmware updateable to profile 2.0 though will it not?
Because of built in wireless (most BD players will be hard wired), media center, larger hard drive than will be common in stand alones, 'option' to play games...
The PS3 is still a great choice for the Blu-ray enthusiast though in about a year the stand alones will all be 2.0 compliant and the PS3 will go back to being a 'game machine' first.
I honestly don't think it will have a significant effect. Maybe a slight uptick for a month or two, but nothing major.
If someone wants a Blu-Ray player but isn't already interested in gaming, why would they choose the PS3? It's design is terrible (for stacking components for instance) compared with other units and doing a quick check (best buy website) shows that standalone Blu-Ray players are the same price as the PS3 already...soon they'll be cheaper.
I see. Thanks for the link. If it is SOP, then it is ok. As a human, I might make a same mistake in the future (even though I tried to prevent it by double checking, it could still happen). Nice to know that there is a "safety net" IF this happen to me.
@apujanata, KultofCows comments on the rollbacks here. I personally never asked for them to be rollbacked and was preparing for a large loss today by trying to get some bid money through articles and game submissions to make up for some of the lost money - there really wasn't anything I could do about my stupid mistake (and keyboard, which may be getting replaced very soon...).
To help prevent things like this from happening, I suggest that during the IPO 1 period, after you click on the Buy or Sell button, you have to confirm the order a second time to prevent stupid mistakes, typo mistakes, technical mistakes, etc. This would easily keep mistakes from being made as often by forcing people to take a second look at their order.
