Also, add to that the fact that Microsoft now has a sub-$200 console available - those buying a console with cost being the bottom line will have more options available to them.
You seriously expect a 50% increase in Wii sales compared to last year based solely on a ratio of Wiis produced to Wiis sold? There's a bit more to it than that.
I'd be really surprised if we saw those kind of numbers (1.7 million!) I suspect more around the 1.2 million area - which is a 20% increase - due primarily to the sheer availability of the console.
Reggie says here that Wii production is up from 1.6million last year to 2.4million this year. Now last November (and for the sake of this stage of calculation no stockpiling occured) the Wii sold 981k units. 981k out of 1600k is a ratio of approximately 0.61, apply this to the new total of 2400k units and you have 1460k sold in America. Already this is higher than our current prediction.
Now factor in the greater amounts of stockpiling that surely have occured. Wii production has been up for the past few months and i doubt all of it has been going direct to retailers. So im expecting minimal sales of about 1.5million, with the possibility that it could hit closer to 1.7million.
@kspraydad, I wouldn't categorize Wii Music as kids game. I, a full adult, am also interested in "jamming" together with my sons, without having to invest in big, troublesome device, such as guitar lookalike, drum lookalike etc. You should search you tube for J.C. Rodriguez (spelling?) demo of Wii Music.
I was sceptical at first, but I changed my mind after seeing it. So is my sons, who at first are not really interested, but changed their mind.
I would say that whoever like music is the target market of wii music.
Note : My family don't play GH, RB, and I have no plan to buy those kind of games in the future. I should have keep quiet about this game, so I can buy low and sell high.
@mrahaju,As long time members here might recall...I pay NO attention to Wii...all I've heard is that Wii Music is a 'joke' but perhaps I'm only hearing the RB/GH demographic? You don't think people will put off buying a kids game (is that what you are implying) until closer to BF or Xmas?
@kspraydad, Wii Music is out Oct 20. I don't know whether you would consider it as BIG or not. I consider this game to be big, as big as Wii Fit, and I will buy it for my son.
