Japan has about 16 million DS units and could have almost 20 million by the end of this year if sales hold. By comparison, DQ VII sold 3 million with 21 million Playstations and DQ VIII sold 3.6 million with 24 million PS2s. If the attachment rate holds, this game could easily pass 3 million copies in Japan alone. And VII had another 1 million sales outside of Japan.
If this game merely does as wel as VIII, it's underpriced by about 150 DKP. This could be the sort of title that goes way under the radar on an America-centric site such as this. If the IPO price holds, STRONG buy.
I agree with zukaus, this game will go much higher than the current stock price, I mean it is dragon quest. Dragon Quest Monsters Joker has sold over a million copies and it is part of a spin off series of dragon quest. Dragon Quest 8 has sold 4.68 million copies, and I think this game is poised to sell around 3 million copies.
If Japan's obsession with the DS continues and by the time the game is released they are still buying DS games as much as they are now, this game could sell very well.
This game will be great, the current price may be tentative but the market will ultimately decide whether this is the consensus or not. Hopefully they will announce the release date of this game soon, looks to be great.
Yeah, I believe it will sell a whole lot more then what the starting DKP is. This game will be the next big RPG along with FFXII: Revenant Wings. I think we could see DQ9 outsell FFXII:RW considering not every DS owner also owns a PS2. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
I agree with you Randomrage, this is a huge coup for Nintendo and the DS. Dragon Quest is a huge title in Japan and this should sell very well, probably a lot higher than the 100 DKP IPO.
