A million is a way underestimate just in my opinon. This game looks great, they're taking their time on it and the customization from what we've seen is flawless. I just see a million as too few. It's one of those games that makes people subside the price and go straight for the game. No this game alone won't make someone say "i'm getting a ps3!" but it was the start for people to think "maybe this offers more than the xbox." More unique / revolutionary ideas like this and the playstation has a chance.
I plan on riding this stock through the long haul. This stock if the numbers can be shown, I "believe" can be a million sold game. My only problem, which other people have expressed, is that how are these numbers going to be shown if this game is sold through the online feature.
Are they going to do something like Warhawk and have part of it sold through the PSN and the other part sold on disc with an extra goodie? Again, my only concern for this game is the tracking.
The buzz is high on this game and even I am thinking about getting this game as a hard core gamer. As my non-gaming friends have said it definitely has a cuteness factor with the little burlap guys.
Is it a system seller? I don't think so but if you add this game with some other games you might have been thinking about getting. I could see this game definitely help giving that extra shove into a statement of, “oh ok at least there is something for me to play on the system also.”
Long and short of this comment is solely to express it can definitely be a 1 mil+ seller if the numbers can be shown from the PSN properly and I for one plan on riding this stock until something points to a different trend.
It comes as no surprise to me that Nintendo once had an eye on this game. It really has "Wii" written all over it. That being said, I don't think this game will do as well as it should on the PS3. I could see my non-gamer parents playing this, but there's absolutely no way they are going to pay $600 for it. Then Sony is left trying to sell this to the MGS and Final Fantasy fans.
It's a shame really, because this looks like a really fun game, and could possibly help revitalize the dying genre that is platforming.
I believe this game will be the catalyst for Sony to entice casual gamers to the Ps3, along with Home. Everyone I have shown the preview video of LittleBigPlanet have been exited to play it, including my not-so-into gaming fiance, sister, and parents. This game will also cater to the hardcore gamers, and will have long lasting shelf life, due to vast user creation and an entire user-created level and rating structure executed by the Playstation network. Sony needs more creative IPs such as this. I believe this game is very undervalued for what it will deliver come release, as I see this game as a must have for the console, and will possibly even serve to move more consoles, with the promise of an increasingly diverse selection of games on the way.
Considering this is one of the few family friendly titles for the PS3, I'm sure there will be many geeky dads who will be buying Little Big Planet for themselves and their kids.
On a personal note, my girl friend has seen the preview of this game and seems really excited. "They're so cute," she says, talking about the characters.
The gameplay is simple, but the online user-made content seems very complex and fun. How can this game not be a hit?
You make some great points, I thought others would come to the same conclusion without me rehashing it.
There is a tremendous interest in the PS3. Everyone I speak to about the PS3 is simply waiting for games and have no interest in an Xbox360.
I feel the PS3 is going to have its traditional fall resurgence when GTA4, Katamari and others come out.
With Little Big Planet falling on the heels of these games a few quarters later, sales are going to be strong based on strong install base hungry for such games. I think this stock is a huge steal!
Gaara pointed out that he expects LBP to sell 1.2 million. While I'm not as conservative as he is on this stock, he points out that 1 in 5 adoption rate is actually quite high.
I agree with this point wholeheartedly, which is why I admitted my sample is bit small, but I feel this game will be heavily promoted via Sony and the Sony online service. I feel that PS3 owners are going to be saturated by LBP to the point where average joes are buying it for their families, and downloading items to play with in their sandbox.
It's not going to sell like a Lego Star Wars game but if Sony plays their cards right, this game is certain to be at least a million seller, even if it suffers from low adoption rates (10-15:1).
I'm glad that some people saw past the flame war to give their honest opinions on why or why not this game will be successful. It was nice to get the conversation started save a bitter taste.
This whole time you've been trying to make a "noob" look bad, and wait a second, you've contributed nothing!
Here's how you *could* have answered the question (whether it was rhetorical or not):
1) Here's why I don't think it will sell over a million copies
2) Here's why I think it will sell a million copies
3) Be an arrogant sob and make an example out someone
Too bad you chose 3 over and over again! That's no way to get on my friends list Loaldar.
Did you know the REAL stock market is a bit like a messy game forum?
Besides I'm not talking about just a few friends here. I actually take to the time to ask people I barely know about what they are playing and what they are looking forward to.
You can do with that insight what you will, but don't you dare accuse me of devolving the conversation here to that of gaming board. You took care of that all on your own Loaldar, by trying to me out for striking a conversation on this game.
Giving your own opinions is perfectly fine. However, when you enter a discussion with "who doesn't think this will sell high?", it really hasn't contributed anything. If everyone posted on these forums about "my friends all want this game!" then the SimExchange would quickly end up just as messy as gaming boards all over the Net and lose its purpose.
