Companies aren't that enthusiastic about releasing such numbers. The vast majority of games on here have numbers only revealed by NPD and VGcharts. Occasionally a company will brag about setting a new record (such as the recent Pokemon release) or when stating financial numbers (recently, Ubisoft) but if a company doesn't tend to talk about their retail sales, why would they suddenly want to release online sales? Unless it's an unprecedended smash, I wouldn't bet on it. The company would have nothing to gain from doing so.
I guess I am seeing that perhaps this will be different than the downloadable content that has been available on all systems so far...it has all been old ports or basically simple games like flow that exist in flash.
As this is a game that could only be done using today's hardware and that hasn't existed on PC in flash form perhaps we will get real sales numbers on it.
Have Nintendo or Microsoft provided any precise numbers on downloaded games? If not, I wouldn't imagine that Sony would rush to be the first unless the numbers were amazingly high for a title.
Well...I went long on this today with the assumption that ALL sales would be included (DL/Disc)....I was surprised it got listed while this is up in the air but now that it is I think we need to include all verifiable sales. If it does as well as I am thinking it will I'm 'sure' SONY will want to trumpet the success.
@kspraydad, I submitted LBP and when I did I included retail & DL sales. I haven't heard the SE say anything regarding that. As it is now I think DL sales should be included as long as we can get some indication of DL sales. If not we can estimate. Or we can decide to only include retail sales. But, we still don't know exactly how Sony will be handling distribution bw retail and dl.
It might be something like is rumoured with Warhawk...Bl-ray premium price with all extras or PSN for basic game that you can upgrade as you go along.
As well...agree with Laoldar...amazing as it seems to me but wasn't it something like 1.5 million consoles that have gotten online with PSN out of the total of 3 million + units sold...
@ErikAston, I think we can assume its every copy of the game sold, but we will have to see what data is actually available.
I don't understand why the game would be distributed both as a physical Blu-Ray disc and also as a digital download. If the game is small enough to be a digital download, then wouldn't they just save on the distribution costs and sell over PSN like they would any other downloaded game? My read is that the game comes on Blu-Ray but there is a ton of content available over PSN.
Either way, it looks like there is a lot of interest on this IPO.
