@Joe80, I have no plan to buy XBLA game, nor download demo (limited bandwidth), nor DLC. Wii's VC is much, much more interesting to me, therefore I didn't need XBLA. I also planned to upgrade to at least component cable (I don't have HDMI enabled TV). Why do I need to spent 20-30 on recharger ? Couldn't I just use normal AA rechargeable batteries, like the one I use for Wii-mote (2 batteries each wii-mote) ?
Those 3 PS3 exclusives you mentioned is not my cup of gaming. Uncharted might be more to my personal taste than those games.
Depending on the games released on Wii, I could probably get away with NOT buying PS3 / X360 in 2009 or 2010. I have lots of PS2 gaming backlog, and clearing them up could take me a whole year.
@welshbloke, Even with everything bundled into the PS3 when you add what you need for 360, you're almost at the same price unless you go the Arcade route and never play online nor ever download demos, games, DLC, etc (no Live, no HDD).
My new model built last OCT is as noisy as my launch model was, maybe even more noisy. Although this might be an exception.
You mentioned you sent your back with the E74 error but got a noisy one back. Would that mean you had a reasonable old model as noise does not seem to be a problem on the newer models and I was under the impression you were supposed to get back the same model you sent i.e. one with a HDMI port.
When I was referring to wireless interference I was referring to WiFi as opposed to the technique used to connect the controllers. I have never had a problem with the controllers. I live in highly densely populated city and wireless interference is a very big problem.
As for Batteries yes I can eat batteries fortunately for me I have a pretty limitless supply so not a factor for me. I guess otherwise I would of gone down the Plug and Charge route.
The point I argue in favour of the 360 consoles over the PS3 and the reason why I believe the PS3 has lost market share this generation when it should be streets ahead is they did bundle everything together. The price maybe coming down now and becoming increasingly more affordable but so is the competition.
Apujunata is a case in point the Arcade will probably meet his immediate needs. If he does decide to purchase add-ons then he can stagger his payments which will actually mean he will now purchase these items without much thought. I do not necessarily agree with the pricing of Microsoft add-ons but it has proven to be a good tactic. Of course he could choose no to buy anything at all, this is choice in action.
I confess to playing the Blue Dragon demo. Not my cup of tea but horses for courses I suppose.
PhilH, I notice somebody bid you down over your choice of Uncharted. A little bit harsh in my opinion.
@apujanata, I thought 360 used their own wireless signal, not Bluetooth like the other consoles? Blue Dragon is decent, but there are better RPGs out there. I'm just saying I'd look farther beyond what you've played.
360 Arcade as far as I see from Amazon, BB, GS still comes with 256mb unit but I had also thought they upped it to 512mb or it was integrated into the hardware with Jaspers.
I'm not trying to be fanboyish, just coming from someone who has owned 360 for years and PS3 for months. I'd go with PS3. I wouldn't recommend it so strongly if I didn't feel there was a significant difference in what you get in terms of price, reliability, games, features, etc.
Arcade 200 (no HDD, in all likelihood you'd find yourself buy an HDD eventually unless you never plan to buy XBLA game), 20-30 recharger, upgrade to component cable or HDMI 40 & 50 or 4 depending on if 360 works with generic HDMI. So you're paying 224-280 for it with no HDD. Add an HDD, which most people end up doing and you're up to the price of a PS3. Only extra purchase you need with PS3 is HDMI for 4 or component for 20-25. Like PS3 360 looks like crap on composite cable. You don't need HDTV, but definitely something above composite. And it may very well go RROD on you.
It's all about not being only the price it is advertised as.
I regret buying my 360 twice, 1st time and replacing it with a new one when it broke and was not repaired correctly (before PS3). It's sitting boxed up now since December.
Best PS3 exclusives: LBP, Valkyria Chronicles, Killzone 2.
@apujanata,If you are looking for single player experience and online is irrelevant to you then I'm sure you'll find plenty to play on the Xbox. As for my favourite PS3 exclusive...I'd have to say Uncharted would be near the top of my list or Valkyria Chronicles.
@Joe80, I don't have any plan to play multiplayer on either X360 or PS3. In fact, I seldom play multiplayer on Wii, except for Mario Kart Wii. Therefore, the fact that I have to pay for Gold Live is irrelevant. Wireless X360 should also not a problem (no interference with my wireless Wii-mote, and they are both based on the same blue-tooth tech, IIRC).
I know that lots of people didn't like Blue Dragon, but I played in on my friend's X360, and I like it, a lot. Maybe because I like Toriyama drawings. Whatever anyone said about Blue Dragon (not specifically targeted to you), I know it, and I like it. :)
If you considered MGS4 as NOT best PS3 exclusive, what game you considered as BEST PS3 exclusive ? The reason I bought PS2 is because of Koei's Dynasty Tactics, a game that not many people played, especially the Japanese version (first version I played, and made FAQ).
I planned to buy X360 Arcade, especially since they are now bundled with FREE 512 MB Memory card (or is it 20GB now ?).
@welshbloke, I disagree that 360's reliability may now be better than PS3's. Also disagree that the savings are big. You save $100 but then you pay for Live, 2 years of Live will cost you anywhere from $60-$100. And you also need to buy a battery recharger for $20-$30. So the machines are equal in price. I don't see this as trying to argue that PS3 has more features for price.
@PhilHarrision, I don't think it's always advertised maybe or you just need to find a coupon code to enter. They either offer roughly 20% off all consoles at the same time or rotate the savings. I know they had PS3 for just over $300 weeks ago. Don't know why you were bid down.
I was not referring to you or anybody in particular as the PS3 crowd. I have seen the item but not the surveys or the numbers which is why I say it is something people are grabbing onto. All the evidence I have seen to date indicate this to be a very small problem mainly because we have no real evidence.
The benefit over the PS3 and its simple facts are that they do not need to purchase this technology. I own one console with a HDD an original still waiting to die and a new Arcade. I gave up on wireless a long time ago because of problems with interference and capacity and moved to home plug which is why I always recommend they spend the money on one of them rather than the overly priced 360 wireless solution.
I also have helped PS3 owners with Ethernet and Wireless connections ultimately going for Ethernet or Home plug but then I have only been called due to problems so this is in no way a slight on the PS3 and Wireless.
