I think we are tracking sales. When we get numbers for a game that is being sold via Bricks and Mortor, Online stores and via digital download we are rarely informed of how that sales was transacted.
What is true is we do not tend to track digital only games.
@Animate, Great. More estimation, with less and less data from NPD to act as benchmark. I have dataless NPD.
Based on the article, beside the Alan Wake Bundle, it also have the 4GB Kinect Bundles (also $300 on amazon, get Kinect Adventures) and 250 GB Kinect bundles ($400 on amazon, get Kinect Adventures) that are available. Which meant there are 3 concurrently running bundle, if I read it correctly.
I have a feeling that this bundle will get strong competition from those Kinect bundles, since Microsoft are advertising Kinect like a crazy.
@welshbloke, Token to download game is different than a packaged game. What I am getting at is the fact that not all X360 are connected to internet.
Correct me if I am wrong (since I don't have X360), but isn't it necessary for the bundled X360 to connect to internet to download the game ? Is it also necessary for the X360 to be under Live Gold to download the game ? Or is Live Free enough for it ? If it is necessary to be under Live Gold, then the hurdle to download the game is much bigger.
There are 23 Million XBOX live users as of Feb 2010. Since at that time Live support for original XBOX is still up and running, then the penetration is only 44%(44Million X360 and 8 Million XBOX)
The other question : Are we also tracking digital sales in sim-Ex? Or are we tracking only retail sales?
I believe that currently, sim-Ex is for tracking retail sales, not digital sales. This believe came from the fact that we do not have IPO on digital only games, like XBOX Live Arcade games, Wii-Ware, NDS Ware, etc.
The game will be a code bundled with consoles sold which you can use to get the game, why should it not count the same as normal bundled copy?
If you do not want the code, you should be able to sell the code to another person to use, like with project 10 dollar code or other digital download codes.
Remedy must be paid royalties for all these extra digital copies.
I did wonder this myself but as the token gives you access to the game it really is no different then a packaged game. I guess we can no more make somebody take the disc out of the box than we can make them download and install the game.
It has been rumoured to the point that we all knew it already existed but Microsoft have finally made the Holiday bundle official. The 360S bundled with 2 games Alan Wake (Downloadable) and Forza Motorsport 3 (Hard Copy). Both good games and included in the $299 price.
Coming this fall, Microsoft will release a new, re-designed Xbox 360 wireless controller that features a transforming d-pad and different colored buttons.
Kinect is being offered at $149.99 by Microsoft, which has started taking direct preorders for the Xbox 360's new motion-sensing accessory. This confirms listings noticed last week at Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart that Microsoft had previously suggested were speculative.
