If it wasn't a launch title, I doubt that Resistence would have hit those numbers on a Sony system. In a year where you'll see MGS4, GT5, Tekken 6, DMC4, FF13, SOCOM, GTA4 (assuming none of these titles are delayed again), you're not going to see Killzone topping the charts.
This game is getting considerable airtime within the PS3 community.
I do think the PS3 community are holding a Gears of War candle against this game and Haze and I would be suprised if this game did not easily exceed 200dkp I think it is a diservice to suggest it should be priced at a mear 75dkp.
Until either of these games appear it is just speculation because I think quality is becoming an issue with the next gen titles. When you pay the kind of money they are paying they expect a decent game. Currently Killzone looks to be getting the right rumbles with regards to a quality game.
@Laoldar, Why are you assuming that I'm assuming that? lol All I know Americans like FPS. I know Europeans like FPS. I also know that Sony would love an FPS to sell millions, and that's why their spending millions on the KZ franchise.
And although the numbers you posted are relevant, they do not do much in the way of proving your point seeing as that list shows an over-saturation of shooters when a console reaches that level of seniority. Sony will have one shooter soon (or at least that's the way they'll paint it to look), and that'll be Killzone.
But all that I mean is don't underestimate, not go crazy buying stock, or even that it IS underrated. Just pointing out that Halo 3 is a cultural slice at Sony's jugular, and they will not take it lightly. Well that, and Sony fans are loyal.
Why are you assuming that PS3 owners even care that much about FPS games? Sony platforms have never been a showcase for FPS game, nor a place of great sales: (vgchartz numbers of course) Top PS2 FPS sales (about 125 million consoles) MoH: Frontline 6.3 million MoH: Rising Sun 4.65 million SOCOM 3.44 million James Bond (2 games) ~3.15 million each Call of Duty 2.75 million SOCOM 2 2.65 million
Top PS1 FPS sales (about 102 million consoles) James Bond 3 million MoH 2.63 million
So where are all these Sony FPS fans going to come from to buy Killzone 2? Remember that Resistence moved a lot of copies because it had the honour of being the only PS3 launch title that reviewers generally loved. Sony has a lot of big titles coming in 2008 so Killzone won't have that vacuum of quality games to work with. Sony consoles haven't been home to high FPS sales in the past and since they've lost a lot of their mainstream owners this generation, I wouldn't expect that to improve.
I think it's unwise to underestimate this stock. This is Sony's attempt at a Halo. And granted, the first iteration was unsuccessful (though half-decent), KZ 2 looks VERY good. Sony will stop at nothing to generate the type of hype that Halo has recently overdone. And Sony fans will be quick to pick this up simply on those merits, especially since they are not as bogged down with FPS games as 360 owners are.
I expect KZ 2 to sell PS3s, even more so that Littlebigplanet. But for this we'll have to wait and see. And until we near release/hype-time there's not much reason to jump the gun on the numbers.
Again...I always welcome your comments and I currently do not have an interest in this game.
If this game is anywhere rated as well as Resistance I think the PS3 crowd has shown they will support shooters. RFoM has sold 1.6+ million and will keep chugging for awhile ... I'd see KZ2 doing similar numbers...
I was not using them (regarding Gears of War and Halo) as examples of competition, but rather games that have risen above the crowd, they are not just 'good', and have accordingly sold many millions of copies.
Looking at other forums (such as here) that post by the moderator seems credible (supposedly the game sold more in Europe than America). But even so, that would be on a console that had sold around 80 million by the game's release. Attachment rate wise it was at around 2.5%. With the current prediction of lifetime sales of the PS3 at around 51 million that would give it 1.275 million copies sold, but that would be if the game was released near the end of the PS3's lifetime, not near the beginning.
From this I still think the game should be in the 1.2-1.4million (120-140DKP) range.
I'm out of this stock now but I remind you that although there are indications that KZ sold less than a million on the PS2 their is a developer for Guerilla Games that claims multiple millions sold:
As for Gears and Halo....unless you are a multi console owner why would a PS3 owner care about those games as comparisons...they would be looking at Haze (non exlcusive) and perhaps a Resistance 2 as competition no? (I'm thinking about myself here...as a Sony console owner I don't make my purchase decisions on what game is available on Wii or X...I look at the games available to me on PS)
Even if this game turns out to be good (like above 80% average review rating), I still don't think it will be able to hit 1.6 million, I doubt the PS3 will have an unexpected increase in sales per month in the next 6-9 months (holiday season spike is expected and taken into account), as I expect this game to come out around a year or so from now. Also, I think that this genre has become so competitive that you have to be better than good (like Halo or Gears of War level) in order to become very successful in it (sales wise). I still think a better range for this game is 1.2-1.4million (120-140DKP).

Resistence is the exception, not the rule.
