After almost a year's silence, Level 5 has finally decided to spill a bean or two on the subject of White Knight Chronicles, a sumptuous RPG exclusive for PlayStation 3. According to PS3hyper.com, Level 5 and Sony Computer Entertainment have updated their game page with the tantalising words "The day of awakening is coming soon." It's possible White Knight Chronicles will put in an appearance at the Tokyo Games Show 2008 on October 9-12, or else in the hallowed pages of Famitsu Magazine.
"During the recent PlayStation Premiere 2007 event, a new battle scene was shown between a group of large enemy creatures and the White Knight, as well as regular-sized human characters well. Hino says, "In order to show the differences in size, it was important to place both large and small characters. The White Knight was originally set to be 15 meters tall. But then, it would not fit on screen if we put the small characters, so we settled for 7 meters in the final game which just fit in perfectly." "
At last year's Tokyo Game Show, Dragon Quest and Rogue Galaxy developer Level 5 surprised everyone with the unveiling of an original PlayStation 3 RPG, White Knight Story. This year, the game will return to TGS once again, only this time in playable form!
As for Level 5's White Knight Story, company president Hino Akihiro says that the development "has been progressing fairly well. We should be able to show everyone something really soon." Regarding the visual quality of the game, he adds by saying, "You will continue to see some of that [level of quality], but there are also new elements beyond the scope of the footage."
When asked what are Hino's childhood super hero memories, "My memory of a super hero are Kamen Rider during kindergarten. I still watch this series to date. But Gundam might be closer to the image of the game. The initial concept of the game was actually not morphing into the white knight, but much closer to 'piloting' it. For me, both Kamen Rider and Gundam are the prime examples of a super hero story. But the game's story won't be a simple good vs. evil story. It will be adults see as something cool and touches their inner child."
I think this game is severely undervalued, even now. It seems comparable to Fable, and Fable has far oversold predictions (fable sold over 600k units in just the first month -via gamespot) for WKS right now.
I agree. This game will be sure to catch the interest of nearly every JRPG fan. With such realistic physics and collisions, I'm sure many WRPG fans will also be interested. Also keep in mind that we haven't seen the boss fight yet. These bosses are supposed to be absolutley huge. I'm sure these fights will capture action fans as well.
In my opinion, this game has the ability to appeal to nearly every gamer. If Level 5 can create a top quality final product (and they're more than capable of doing so) this game could be very successful.
