IGN reports that the latest issue of Japan’s Famitsu magazine has confirmed that a sequel to White Knight Chronicles is in development.
Sadly there’s not a lot to go on right now, with the publication neglecting to divulge much of any concrete info on the project, other than hinting at the return of protagonist Leonard.
I'm crossing my fingers that Famitsu mixed up the scores between The Last Remnant and WKS. I just dont get how this game could score worse than other jrpgs this gen considering their sub-par quality.
White Knight Chronicles has been thought of by many as a title that would turn the tides of the console war in Japan. It was to be the first major, big budget Japanese RPG exclusive to the PS3.
The title was scored a very sub-par 29/40. For a reference, the latest JRPG to hit the Japanese market prior to White Knight, the Last Remnant, scored a 38/40, and Enchanted Arms, a JRPG generally considered to be the worst JRPG this generation, scored a 29/40.
"Whi1te Knight Chronicles'to have massive online mode. Players will be creating their own online avatars. The player can customize his or her own avatar's looks and gender. The online mode will be an important tie-in to the single player adventure, rather than each being a separate gameplay component. The experience, items, and money gained in both the offline and online modes of White Knight Chronicles will be shared between each other."
Here is what Dengeki scans of WKC say-
-First RPG on the market to be native 1080p
-Storyline quality on par with that of DQ series story lines
-Image quality approaching that of Final Fantasy
-Aspects reminiscent of Monster Hunter
The much anticipated title has also been renamed as:-
"White Knight Chronicles -Heartbeat of the Ancients- / -Ancient Pulse-"
According to the developer Ryko WKS is:-
"-Largest/most extravagant title he's ever worked on and will more than likely remain that way.
-Alludes to being interested in producing a sequel...WKC is probably only the first chapter in an epic story
-Includes an aspect which go beyond typical RPG gameplay which is only possible on PS3, but hasn't been revealed yet "
Well, it is not your mistake to believe an article. I have done the same mistake in the past. I must admit that I am a little bit suspicious that WKC will be released in 2008, since I believe E3 08 should have release date announcement if the release data is in 2008.
