Media Molecule team members are currently on stage at CES, showing off the "play, create, share" title LittleBigPlanet to conventioneers and business types. The team just showed off a new pre-built level for the first time, one that introduces player death and respawn points to the DIY platformer. One of the new materials, under the "terribles" group, is a steaming hot magma rock, one that kills on contact.
While the game is still pre-alpha, with an Autumn release date planned—they wouldn't commit to September, specifically—there's a surprising amount of content to play around with, far more so than in previous builds.
A source nestled within Sony has whispered to Eurogamer that LittleBigPlanet will be on our shelves in September, echoing the same suggestions made elsewhere.
I disagree that this stock doesn't have higher to go. It may eventually level out around 2.5 to 3 million, but I think there's going to be a lot of hype to drive this price higher in the meantime.
LBP has been hovering in the 200+ DKP range since the summer, so I think once some big news and some demo hits there's some opportunity for long investors to make some money :)
I'm still bullish on this game, I think its going to hit a nerve and do better than 3 million, but that's just my inner-fanboy talking!
I haven't heard anything about pricing at all but if I was in charge I would price this game to sell. I think Sony should make a bold move and price the online version at a relatively low price of $19.99 or less at the PSN store. Sony could also sell a limited edition at retail with all sorts of goodies included for a higher price maybe $39.99. I don't think this will actually happen but who knows?
From what I understand Sony intends this to be a community based game where people meet and play together online. Players are supposed to be able to design or build objects and even entire levels for each other to play with. So it sounds pretty important to have a large number of players and a stable community to play with. It all sounds very ambitious to me and risky too.
Honestly I'm still not 100% sure on how this game actually plays but it seems that building a large initial user base quickly would be crucial to reach the a critical mass and sell the 2.3+ million copies that the exchange is currently predicting.
It's odd but maybe some SimExchange veterans might remember that we have had a short history of overpricing a couple of these innovative and quirky titles with cute characters like Viva Pinata and Elebits. I wish we had long term charts here but you can see the all time highs of these titles and where they actually cashed out at.
I'm not saying that LittleBigPlanet is going to sell like either of those games. Sony seems to be shooting higher and putting a lot of effort in this game and maybe this could be their casual hit. I'm interested in playing this one, but I would still bet that it won't sell 2.3 million unless Sony prices it right.
To me this stock seems over valued. The reason being that, for one, 2.4 million copies is quite a bit. Originally people on here were estimating around 1million copies, maybe a bit more. Well nothing has really changed since then. The game is the same still, no playable demo yet, etc. And while this looks like it will be an awesome game that I will be getting, I doubt that is will sell that much. As for how much it is over valued by, I don't know. It just seems too high and is bearish for me.
PlayStation 3's software library got significantly better this holiday, but there's no killer app. I honestly don't know if LittleBigPlanet would have been one. But I think it's going to be mine. It's going to be the thing that glues me to PlayStation 3... when it ships. I was all ready to start building worlds and sharing them with my friends, but it won't happen until next year, if you believe the rumors. And I do hope LittleBigPlanet sets the planet on fire when it releases."
@-THE-RAY-, outchies... 2nd big delay for ps3 in a row... and i remember a news a while ago couplign LBP with killzone... not goood for ps3... not good
Tim Mellish from Gamernode writes:We never like it when a title is delayed. The anticipation is extended, plans are reworked, and a general feeling of sadness persists for at least a day. The sting is all the more real when the game is a highly touted, much looked forward to title like LittleBigPlanet. That's right folks; LittleBigPlanet has been delayed until Fall of 2008.
