"'I can officially confirm that there won't be a demo this year,' Ron Eagle, senior manager of PR for Sony Computer Entertainment America told me. But he did say he's played 30 of the games 50 planned developer-made levels and that it's a lot of fun. He seemed genuinely pleased about his time with the game, but his company won't be showing more 'LBP' at least until next month. Eagle could only add that the full game is set for a 2008 release."
Having followed this game from the beginning I can assuredly tell you that there will be both a PSN store download and a Blu-ray copy of this game.
Although the posting of my news article is from 1UP dated 08/21/2007, I believe this hasn't changed since the Q&A. I hope this provides some answers to what you two have been discussing. Link to source of what I'm about to quote: http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?pager.offset=1&cId=3162163
"1UP: You won't confirm it's free -- the beta?
AE: What I say on the beta trial is that we're gonna go with the Home model, so it's gonna be global as far as I know. It'll start private, just as the Home one has, and we'll grow it as fast as we can, get as many people excited and involved in the game. But I don't see that it needs to link directly to the pricing model of the final game, which will be coming out on a Blu-ray disc, as well as on the PlayStation Store. And when we're [closer to] that time -- still a long way off -- we'll be able to assess what the best way is, and I'm sure Sony will support us in making sure the community is really supported all the way through. That's what most important, is the community of people that we'll build around this game."
From all the early information I also believed that this game would be sold in the PSN store alongside a full retail release. When this game was first listed on theSimexchange there was enough discussion about it to warrant a blog post discussing whether online purchases of downloaded titles, like perhaps LittleBigPlanet, would be accounted for in the value of a stock.
@kspraydad, The same can be done if its released on PSN. Since I listed this game on the SE back in the beginning of March, I originally read then that it would be coming to PSN & Bluray and have not seen anything that disputed that from a gaming website or magazine. If it releases only on Bluray I will be surprised and it will represent a change from the original plans I think.
@Joe80,be careful about how you interpret PH's stuff, he is being very general there, notice he didn't mention it would be a retail, and we know it's launching a Demo this year.
My understanding was the online release was sort of a beta period and the best levels etc would be put onto the BD disc for sale with the game so that you had levels to play 'out of the box'
