LittleBigPlanet is a great platform game. It's not a perfect one. It doesn't need to be, though, because its creative tools turn it into something else entirely, a unique, hilarious, endless entertainment. Even - and this is an absolutely crucial point - if you never use them.
@Joe80,It IS quite amazing the things that will come out of this game...You could have a slope and a ball rolling along the bottom actvating this song (for looping at the end you can release a new ball on a timer) while playing a constructed level above.
When I play it I think 'platformer'... it seems very Mario/Crash/Sonic ... but at a slower pace where puzzles and gadgets take precednece over speed (though you can make speed levels too!). You've got side scrolling, climing, swinging, rockets, elastic jumps...its a mishmash. User content will bring it beyond the traditional I think and if successful will create a lot of viral buzz and long tail.
I'm not much of an artist but I've been thinking of a Burgertime or Kangaroo level (two of my favs from my youth) and a level based on Harry Potter...both 'seem' doable will the limited exposure I've had so far.
@Joe80,Lithium piped up so I sent it to him...no wasted codes!
I've fiddled with it for a bit..seems to have alot of scope...I worry that the 'create' end of things won't be doable for the younger set that Sackboy is targeting but maybe I'm underestimating the talents of the pre teen set.
My own daughter (12) is eating it up but she will be playing levels created by others...I don't see her doing her own. The included demo levels have lots of secret areas so getting 100% is a challenge. The characters/music/gameplay is so sacharine sweet though that it really seems fun to try and get the level rather than a grind like many games do.
Lovely game and hope it leads to good things for SONY...they need something that has appeal to a younger set (Free Realms should help too http://kotaku.com/5026243/free-realms-+-the-best-mmo-at-e3).
