Somewhere in the world, most likely floating in-between clouds eight and ten, is the only games journo to have enjoyed hands-on time with Mario Kart Wii.
How'd he infiltrate Ninty HQ? No one knows. Maybe he hid inside one of Reggie's giganto pockets. Whatever, he's the luckiest man on earth, and either way, he's being evilly coy with the details. Fess up!
GoNintendo got some advance info from the next issue of NMag (he writes for them) and posted the Mario Kart Wii tidbits:
-Sliding and snaking confirmed
-Baby Peach, Boo to be drivers
-online battle mode
-16 new + 16 old courses
-different vehicles for every driver
-controls can be compared to Excite Truck
As with all games being brought to the wii for the first time the big question is how are the controls? Fortunately the motion controls handle everything the game throws at the player very smoothly. Satoru Iwata has correctly stated “driving a kart will feel perfectly natural to anyone who has ever used a steering wheel.”
@Joe80, good call. I think Mario Kart has more appeal to casual players today than Mario platformers. I know a lot of people who got the Wii who say they have a lot of trouble with 3D platformers like Mario 64.
Mario Kart may sell more than Galaxy. The disappointing Mario Kart Double Dash on GC outsold both Super Smash Brothers Melee & Super Mario Sunshine. Mario Kart DD is the best selling GC game. In addition, Metacritic has the following reviews for Super Mario Sunshine 92 (61 reviews) Mario Kart DD 87 (58 reviews)
So not only did Mario Kart DD outsell Sunshine, but it did so with lower reviews.
@CrimsonFalcon167, Maybe because SMG is "underperforming", and Mario Kart Wii is still all theoretical potential? There isn't any real data priced into the value of the stock, yet.
