The new color joins a palette of seven individual DS colors, including Polar White, Onyx (Jet Black), Coral Pink, Crimson/Black, Cobalt/Black, Metallic Rose, and not Metallic Silver.
@lstormy10, What I was saying is that their next handheld needs to focus on core games, i.e. games designed for the hardcore and core gamers. And that if they start out with a casual focus they will be surprised, meaning that they will expect it to do very well but it will not. Which will be surprising to them, but not surprising to people like us.
@Joe80, That is an interesting scenario, but the Wii's launch was geared towards the hardcore. Part of the reason that the Wii was able to gain traction with a wide market is because of getting the early adopters to immediately buy up the stock and get the word out. I don't believe that casual gamers are as active in grabbing up a console on launch day or during the longer launch period. It's the hardcore that currently grab up a console on launch or during the launch period.
@lstormy10, True, but they won't even need it. It will have the momentum as long as it has core games. If they release a handheld with as much casual focus as the Wii, I think they will be surprised, while no one else will be. Release with some decent games, then when holiday hits they unleash the games that had more development time.
@Joe80, However, a holiday release gives the console guaranteed momentum to ride into the next year even if there is shortages. A spring or summer release does not give Nintendo as much momentum.
@Joe80, I agree that 2010 is the earliest timeframe for DS2. In fact, I am thinking about 2011 or beyond.
Reason : I don't think Sony are eager to jumpstart PSP2 (since they are focusing on their PS3 ATM), and without PSP2, I don't we will see DS2 announcement from Nintendo, especially since it is still selling well.
@lstormy10, I don't see a new portable coming from Nintendo until 2010 at the earliest. I'm just commenting on the rumor. I think they would relese it in the spring or summer if they don't have a stockpile ready for holiday.
