Nintendo DS May 2009 Sales said is was going to cash out on the 10th and it is currently the 11th 10:44 AM and it has not cashed out yet. Can the mods fix this?
@Powertrade, In the Nintendo report briefing, page 3, last paragraph,, it was mentioned that April 09 is double April 08. Since April 08 is 415K, it meant 830K April 09, if you assumed that data is reliable.
We have Nintendo DS at over 800,000 unit sales for April. I assume the thinking is the DSi attracted significantly higher than usual sales for the DS. However, we seem to be on the high end for console estimates for this month. Could this 800,000 estimate also be too high?
@apujanata, The form factor for PSP Slim is not its selling point. No one really cares about changes in PSP form factor that much (unless they were radical changes) and many I've heard actually prefer the form factor of the original PSP since it feels more sturdy.
PSP Slim's selling points are better dpad, buttons, and analog, more memory (for faster load times and web browsing), better screens (although 3000 vs 2000 is debated, but still better than original), TV Out ability, and better battery life if you use the larger battery. Price drop while phasing out original model also helped.
I'm not sure how dramatic the improvements to wireless ability are or peoples' views of that or the ability to charge via usb.
@KultofCows, The cameras and audio will get the younger crowd, the larger screen and DSIWare will get the core gamer. DSi actually has worse battery life and is thinner but longer I thought. The question is will Nintendo be able to make DSIWare into a real selling point for people. At the very least (worst case scenario) they can eventually just stop producing DSL and replace it with DSi at same price and continue to sell well.
@KultofCows, Perhaps somehow making the game submissions more noticeable on the site or raising the reward for bidding on them. I think people might just forget about game submissions because when they goto community they're going there to comment.
@KultofCows, PSP Slim, which are mostly just smaller form factor (not sure about battery life) have good sales, so I am not surprised with DSi good sales, even though it is priced higher.
Beside camera, which not many games utilized it yet, DSware is also a major selling point (at least for me). It is nice being able to play lightweight games without bring a whole bunch of DS games, or resorting to R4 just to minimize those bunch of DS games.
One other thing : DSi are intended to be something akin to PDA, which is why there are many application (like calculator, train schedule etc) that are released (in Japan mostly, so far, but I think it will also happen in US & Europe). Because of those capabilities, it is more like 1 person = 1 DSi, instead of 2 or more people sharing a DSL or DS ori.
I can see the smaller form factor and battery life accelerating sales; however, I myself do not see the greater appeal added by the camera features.
Nintendo has recently been blitzing TV with its commercial of 2 guys insulting each other by drawing on each other's photos. This is certainly a different feature for the gaming device, but is this really what is pulling in accelerating sales?
Nintendo have revealed that since going on sale the DSi has sold 435,000 units in the United States.
To put that in perspective, they say that after the same amount of time on the market, the DS Lite had sold "only" 226,300 units.
@mrahaju, I predicted this will happen, but didn't manage to invest heavily in it yet. If I find this news first, I would have been able to invest more before other people.
