Indigo Prophecy was on multiple platforms (Xbox, PS2, PC), so I was trying to confirm whether the 800,000 copies sold number I cited for that game was for one platform, or for all of them combined. I cited that game because it is by the same developer as Heavy Rain, so wanted some numbers from their previous games for comparison.
With all the new IPOs, there are bound to be some stocks that go unnoticed but are probably overpriced, I think this is one of them, given the current information.
I do not know where this stock should be, but double the 800k figure I cited would seem reasonable. The problem is I have not been able to verify whether that 800k figure is for all platforms or just a specific platform. If it is for all platforms then this stock might need to drop some more, if it is for a specific platform then the current price seems reasonable. As there is little information on this game currently, I will need to wait and see more information before I make a better prediction.
@GoblinMerchant, I shorted this stock at IPO Phase 2, at 235.07 price point. Thanks to whoever drove down this stock, and who put a barrier at 150, I managed to close out my position at a signficant profit.
What do you all think this one should be priced at ? Did I jumped out too early ? I choose to bail out because 150 is at double the 800K mentioned by Gaara42, so it is a reasonable point for me to jump out.
@Gaara42, Are you the one driving down the price today ?
I also believed that the GLS should be less than 2 Million, but you know about this kind of game (full of hype). What you believe might not be what the other believe. :)
Dislaimer : I have some small short on this stock.
For an unproven title that seems to be aimed at a new style of play (or at least a much less popular style along the lines of Indigo Prophecy), we are expecting 2.34 million in sales? Can someone explain the high expectations? I found that Indigo Prophecy sold around 800,000 copies, though it is not clear if that is just for one platform or for all the platforms it was released on.
@ixaarii, Now *this* is what I expected from next-gen all along... the point where it stops being about technology and it starts being about content, about acting, about scripts, about story... and not about killing hundreds of monsters... I think this is *the* way to make gaming mainstream, not a new approach in mechanics like the Wii is doing. Games need to be able to be more experiences like a movie and book and less a test of stamina and perseverence in killing endless hordes of thingies...
Now I realize I may be setting my hopes too high for this game, and I'm not that confident that this will be the one, but this is the direction I expect gaming to head in. At least half of gaming. I think gaming is split into two audiences, the one that enjoys the mechanics and competitive fun, I think of it as the Pong derivative, Wii seems to be great for that part, but then there's the other side which needs fantasy for their lives, movies, books, who'd play table top rpgs and adventure games... needless to say I'm of the second type: playing games for the sake of the story and universe therein... and I believe this could really bring games mainstream if more games had cinematic qualities to them. Anybody picking up a game should be able to finish the story and feel good, even those with less mechanics skils. It's games like this that I can recommend to my book reading & movie watching friends and family...
"French developer Quantic Dream has told GamesIndustry.biz that it intends to secure some of the biggest names in Hollywood for its upcoming PlayStation 3 title, currently known as Heavy Rain.
With a new in-house motion capture studio, the Fahrenheit developer believes that it can successfully portray actor's emotions - not just physical movement - with actors now interested in the script and story behind the game rather than worrying about the technology."
@ixaarii, Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit in NA) was one of the most innovative games I've played, and I'm not sure but it looks like Mass Effect may have taken the dialogue system from this game for their branching dialogue, I'll have to look into that further. I hope Quantic Dream can mature as game developers and provide more gameplay than was in Fahrenheit, I think they will because they haven't made that many games yet and have shown improvement.
