Confirmation that sales are 'approx' 2 million "I can take just one example of Heavy Rain," Quantic Dream co-founder Guillaume de Fondaumiere told GamesIndustry.biz. "We basically sold to date approximately two million units. We know from the Trophy system that probably more than three million people bought this game and played it (he is talking about rental/used sales accounting for the extra 1million)
David Cage, Heavy Rain's creator, says that the game has sold 1 million units since its release and expects another 500,000 to move by the end of 2010.
"While Heavy Rain is an intricate game that deserves to be debated for a long time, it is also a simple one to enjoy: a thrilling mystery, cleverly composed, and unlike anything else you will play this year. It may also be the only game you play this year where pulling the trigger makes you really feel something, and I can think of no greater compliment. "
When developer Quantic Dream created the unique thriller, Fahrenheit (AKA Indigo Prophecy) back in 2005, its experiment in interactive story telling almost paid off.
Commercially, Fahrenheit did sell very well, over 800,000 copies according to the developer. It's always exciting when a developer promises to push the boundaries of a genre and sure enough gamers were lured in by its dark storyline and unique cinematic audio visual experience.
Quantic Dream exec Guillaume de Fondaumiere has confirmed Heavy Rain won't be released until 2010. "Most publishers today realise that it's not ideal to release a new IP or a new genre just before Christmas. It's a very crowded place to be, and certain games need more space to live their life,"..."Everybody at working on the project, both at Quantic and Sony, believe this is the right time."
There is no set policy on bidding. Every user has the freedom to bid based on whatever criteria they choose. Just like in life, you will never be able to please everybody so don't worry about a few downbids on TSE.
Perhaps I misunderstand the bid system. I posted a brand new interview with the creator of Heavy Rain which reveals new info, posted it in the right place and gave two snippets from the interview.
Why is this downbid? Are we supposed to downbid based on games we like or not or is it supposed to reflect whether the article is useful to the people here.
I'd like to know in what manner this article wouldn't be considered a positive influence on TSE.
Everything we learned and did right on [Indigo Prophecy] done 10 times better, less everything we've done wrong.
The company has now reached another stage where we're ready to have two and soon three projects at the same time, with the same desire of ambition and originality. We want to continue to pioneer emotion and narrative in games in the future, but also apply what we've learned to different formats and different genres.
Heavy Rain for PlayStation 3 has been revealed in a 20 minute off-screen presentation at the Micromania Games Show. It takes awhile to stream but it is well worth it. The video is embeded at the site.
