Ghostbusters: The Game will be released on Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PC on October 23, according to the latest release schedule from Namco Bandai Partners.
@TheSmilkman, Are there a lot of region free (not region-locked) games on X360 ? Is this a standard, or just a way for overcoming a region specific exclusive (like PS3 exclusive for this game) ?
According to a number of reports from North American purchasers of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, the highly anticipated film-to-game adaptation is more than capable of crossing the stream known as the Atlantic Ocean. Yes, players are claiming that the Xbox 360 version of the title isn't region-locked, and can be played on consoles worldwide -- even in Europe, where Sony recently scored the publishing rights for the title, turning it into a PS3 exclusive.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game developer Terminal Reality has expressed frustration at publishing deals that have seen the game passed around to three different companies in the past year.
The developer admitted that it has had no say in publishing or distribution decisions, as the game has been pushed from Activision to Atari, and now Sony in Europe.
Ghostbusters now being a timed exclusive to PS3/PS2 during the movie's release (at least in EU) would lead to less sales on the Xbox version potentially. It'll get pushed into Christmas season and may get drowned out while the PS3/PS2 version is selling along with the movie. I imagine the movie is hitting the same demographic in terms of age as PS3 owners too.
It's been a long, strange trip for Ghostbusters: The Video Game, but we're one step closer to the end today as Atari announces a June 2009 multi-platform release for the eagerly anticipated title.
After a long time hanging around like a dog with no collar, Ghostbusters seemed to have a home with Atari but we never had any official confirmation. Now we have it, along with a tiny offering of new screenshots.
Ghostbusters is on track for a 2009 release and will coincide with the original film's 25th anniversary. The game was looking damn hot when it was last seen, so this is great news indeed. It's not like Atari couldn't do with a good game, either.
