The one variable we've not considered is how many of those players are playing on a friend's copy of the game? My g'tag would have been included in that total, but I was playing with a friend's housemate's copy. 3 gamertags, only 2 sale.
It'll be interesting to see what the final sales numbers are, that's for sure.
All time:
Games (All Time): 41,453,394
Players (All Time): 2,320,658
24h:
Games (24h): 2,398,809
Players (24h): 663,080
These are strong numbers. If you factor in that 90% of people who bought the game played it online, and people who got their paycheck on friday can cash it and buy the game
2.3 Million x 1.10 = 2.53 Million
2.3 Million X 1.20 = 2.76 Million
It's been on store shelves for less than two days and Halo 3: ODST has logged nearly a million players in the last 24 hours. More specifically, according to Bungie.net, the game had logged 936,278 players when this post was written. All of those troopers have managed to put away 5,653,310 games. That's roughly six games per person in a 24-hour period. On a weekday. We don't want to jump the gun here, but Bungie just might have a success on its hands.
Halo 3: ODST isn't a true sequel, but it is more than a standard expansion. If you're on the fence about buying it, drop your reservations and go snag a copy. If you love Halo, you owe it to yourself to pick this up as soon as you can.
There are places where ODST could be improved, but when it comes down to it, every Halo fan should buy this game. Even if you've lost interest over the years or haven't ever given a Halo game a look, you'd do well to grab ODST & a few friends for some of the best multiplayer gaming around, especially with as wonderful an addition as Firefight. The campaign is a tad short, but well-crafted & exciting. Then there's a whole disc full of multiplayer maps, though you may already own the bulk of them.
