The Good
Play control – This is what I consider the most important part of a game, and Duke does it well.
It’s Funny – Some of the jokes are kind of lame and go too far, but others are pretty good, and ridiculous — what Duke should be.
The Bad
Graphics – The graphics in this game look like you’re playing a game from 14 years ago.
Loading Times – This almost killed the game for me.
After more than 15 years of waiting, Duke Nukem Forever has arrived in the U.S.
"June 14 in North America will forever be celebrated as the day that the legendary Duke Nukem Forever went from video game folklore to earth-shattering reality," Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K Games, the title's publisher, said in a statement. "For 15 years, fans have waited in limbo just yearning to hear those two little lovely words strung together--now available."
It would appear that Duke is going to take a few extra strides during his long walk to retail. Gearbox Software has just announced that Duke Nukem Forever has one again been hit with delays and will now arrive on June 10 internationally and June 14 in North America.
Gearbox had previously promised Duke's return occur on May 3.
A reason for the delay was not given; however, Gearbox took a moment to release a video poking fun at itself for adding to the Duke delay drama.
Today at PAX 2010, 2K Games revealed that Duke Nukem Forever--a game first announced in April 1997--is currently in development at Gearbox Software for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Gearbox had previously been at the center of a rumor involving the game's development in the past.
Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. filed a breach of contract suit against Apogee Software Ltd. this week in a Manhattan Court over the developer's "continually delayed" Duke Nukem sequel.
Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms has allegedly being forced to close, according to numerous online reports.
Sources at website Shacknews and others initially reported that the closure was due to "funding issues" and that staff had already been made redundant.
Yesterday Kotaku gave us the cell-phone video of the two Duke Nukem Forever screens that can be found in the XBLA version of Duke Nukem 3D, which released last week. Well, now we've got the .jpgs, via Duke4.net. Get ready for some stripper ass in full size on the jump. There's also a slightly less attractive three-glowing-eyed alien thing.
They may have finally released another teaser trailer late last year, but forgive us for remaining skeptical about Duke Nukem Forever after 11 years of waiting. Apparently, though, this latest push to make people believe was no joke, as ShackNews reports that they were given a surprise look at the game late last week.
George Broussard has also come to the rescue by posting the following message in the 3D Realms forums:
In what appears to be an unfortunate turn of events, there seems to have been some confusion between what was 'off the record' and what was not. I suppose we're used to dealing with gaming press and not mainstream press. Lesson learned.
