My first console was SNES and there are 3 games I remember heavy from the Time: Mario, Mario Kart and Street fighter. The Wii as a more adult audience at the moment, I think it is very possible that a lot of "older" buy the game, just because its a mario and that remembers them of their childhood. Hell who in my age (25) didn't play one Mario in his childhood?
"Super Mario Galaxy is an embarrassment. It's an embarrassment for platform games. It's an embarrassment for adventure games. It's an embarrassment for Nintendo and an embarrassment for the Wii. What have we all been playing at in the ten years since Super Mario 64 came out? This is what gaming ought to be like."
@Laoldar, Haha! I guess it wasn't really that long ago, but it was a while. Like 10 years, at least. I mean, someone who's in college now would probably remember Super Mario 64 from their child hood, and I think that nostalgia could help sales. Plus this game looks great. I got a Nintendo Power with a huge article on SMG, and I'm even more excited for it now than before.
@Just_Ben, I agree. It may even sell more. The 1900 DKP it was at for a while seems too high, but I think it could get up around 1700. Everyone needs to remember that this title has big appeal to casuals, many of whom won't be getting a Wii until Christmas. And when they do get it, what game are they most likely to get? I'd say Super Mario Galaxy, as it will be one of the games most interesting to casual gamers, a possible second only to SSBB. Also, all of the older gamers who remember the old days where they were playing through a 3D adventure with Mario on the N64 should take some interest in this game. I personally am waiting for Christmas to pick this up, though I already have a Wii, and I think a lot of other people are doing the same.
To be honest, I personal still believe it can sell 16 Million. I say it is the same here like RE:4. There are believers and no believers. This game will sell a truckload, stay high in the charts for at least a year in every territory, will have a nice second christmass, if not a third. I think you all underestimate the power of legs. That game is not heavy first week headed like Halo. Thats nearly no game on the Wii.
If you're not one of those types that has to have a new game the second the employees open the box in the store, GameStop's current StopWatch sale has an offer for you. If you pre-order Super Mario Galaxy within the next two days, you will qualify for free two day shipping.
