We have no confirmation or sourcing of our own on this, so, we don't vouch for its accuracy. But we will be watching the clock at 10 am Crecente time tomorrow, as CrunchGear is rumormongering that Microsoft will announce Blu-Ray Xboxes will be shipping by Christmas, at that time. Rumor has it they'll cost less than an Elite

Let's take it back to basics - who, exactly, are the mass market? We talk about mass-market products in a manner which often conflates them with casual products, but that's simply not an accurate way to define the term. The answer, in simple terms, is that "mass-market" is a term that's utterly meaningless when used to describe software. So the term is meaningless - unless you apply it to platforms.

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) expects sales of its Xbox 360 game console to continue to grow this year - even if there is a global economic slowdown. Alan Bowman, general manager of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division for Asia Pacific and Greater China added that the 360's focus on high-definition games puts it in a good position to weather the economic problems.

Michael Bay: Microsoft is the Real Problem

Outspoken director Michael Bay has once again posted a note on his website in regards to the format war, this time calling out Microsoft. He pointed out, similar to what many insiders have been saying for a while, that Microsoft was only trying to destroy both formats in order to usher in digital downloads. Mr. Bay called Blu-ray the "superior" format and hinted that Microsoft was behind the now infamous Paramount payoff.

The company have announced that, yes, they're going to follow Apple into the dedicated retail space, and will be opening an undisclosed number of stores across the US. The chain will be overseen by David Porter, formerly of Dreamworks Animation, who was hired by Microsoft this week to act as vice president of retail stores.

Microsoft Flight Simulator studio ACES is one of the first outfits to be hit significantly by yesterday's planned job cuts. In addition, a report by Microsoft blogger Mary-Jo Foley suggests that the bulk of the 1400 immediate job cuts announced yesterday are to come from the Entertinament and Devices division – responsible for Xbox 360, Zune and Windows Mobile businesses.

Microsoft today announced that its Games for Windows initiative is set to expand with the launch an online PC gaming marketplace this fall. The service will deliver free and paid downloadable game content, along with trailers, demos, and other content comparable to the company's Xbox Live offerings.
