Microsoft Corp. said Thursday it is cutting 5,000 jobs, a sign of how badly they are being stung by the recession. The layoffs appear to be a first for Microsoft, which was founded in 1975. Theyare unable to offer profit and revenue guidance for the rest of the year, because of the market volatility.

We haven't heard about Banjo-Kazooie for a while. Today, Rare has released a Christmas card featuring these beloved characters, suggesting that we may finally get to play Banjo-Kazooie in 2008. Avid gamers will also notice that one of socks hung on the fireplace mantel has a "KI3" applied, a malign teaser for those of us who have been waiting for a new Killer Intinct game for years.

Microsoft wants to bring something along the lines of Xbox Live Marketplace to Games for Windows Live. "You can be confident we want to enable things like digital distribution, the ability to do downloadable content for games - that's a direction we're definitely headed in," GfW senior global director Kevin Unangst told Eurogamer in an interview published today.
