The staple Xbox 360 - the Xbox 360 Pro - looks set to march straight off retail shelves and into the history books, if new console packaging is anything to go by. No conclusive proof but the evidence on the face of it looks compelling.

OXM UK reports that EA feels the Xbox 360 has "maxed out" while PlayStation3 has not. The comments came from EA Games Europe's Senior VP Patrick Soderlund, talking to OXM during E3. However, despite feeling that PlayStation3 hasn't been maxed out yet, Soderlund also suggests that Microsoft has the current advantage over Sony. "I think Microsoft is on a roll right now," Soderlund says. "They're doing really well. If I was Sony, I would have a headache, to be honest."

The story that we are hearing goes something like this… Microsoft will stop taking orders for the Xbox 360 Elite at some point during the second quarter and allow inventory of the Elite consoles to start to run down. The majority of retailers would prefer just a low-end and a high-end console, so this change will be made during the second quarter, which is the fourth fiscal quarter for Microsoft.

Chris Lewis, VP for Microsoft's Inetractive Entertainment Business in teh EMEA region, has told GamesIndustry.biz that he's very clear on exactly who has teh console lead between Sony and Microsoft in Europe- and he says that the third party numbers prove it.

Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices division at Microsoft, responding to a question asking when and if the Xbox 360 would adopt Blu-ray technology, said that there were "a lot of reasons" why the company has no plans to do so-chiefly, low consumer demand. "It's not a feature we get a ton of requests for," Bach said. "When you ask people the list of things they want to see us spending time creating in Xbox, Blu-ray is way, way down on the list."

Microsoft has unveiled a new Xbox 360 bundle containing Capcom's highly anticipated Resident Evil 5, destined for Japanese shelves early this year. The latest sequel in the franchise, known as Biohazard in the region, will feature in the Xbox 360 Biohazard 5 Premium Pack. It will include an 60 gigabyte Xbox 360 unit, a headset, and a copy of the Resident Evil 5 Deluxe Edition, which features a metal case and includes the game's soundtrack.

Best ever Christmas doubling sales over the same period in 2007. GFK=Chartrack data would appear to back this up as it has the 360 as the fastest growing console in EFIGS in 2008. Microsoft claim the Xbox 360 install base is now at 8m in EMEA with a 1m lead over the PS3.

According to UBS analyst Ben Schachter, Microsoft is going to cut the prices across their 360 hardware lineup next month in order to slow Sony's momentum.
