GameStop: 360 Cuts Will Drive Huge New Sales

Edge Online - September 9, 2008

Submitted by mrahaju (9) at 11:30PM PST on September 9, 2008

Speaking to Edge at GameStop Expo in Las Vegas, the retailer’s senior vice president of merchandising Bob McKenzie said : “[We expect Xbox 360 sales to have] more in the range of a two to fourfold increase. It’s significant. “Even since the markdown last Friday,” says McKenzie, “we have seen significant increases in sell-through. You would expect higher sales initially, but we’re actually much more bullish on our projections of what this markdown will do.”

Kotaku - August 5, 2008

"Buy much horse armour? Spend cash money unlocking Tiger Woods cheats? Don't feel down. Even if you regret your purchase, Microsoft (and friends) don't! Indeed, at the recent Gamesfest event, they disclosed just how little regret they have, announcing that since the launch of the 360 they've recorded over $240 million in downloadable content transactions, with $180 million of that just in the last 12 months."

Microsoft: We Want More Exclusives

Edge - August 1, 2008

Submitted by Rol83 (481) at 1:50PM PST on August 1, 2008

Asked about Xbox 360's weaknesses, Microsoft interactive entertainment boss Don Mattrick replied, "We’d love to have more exclusive hits on our box, absolutely. Are we investing in that? Yes we are. Does that take a lot of time? Yes it does." Currently, Microsoft's exclusive strategy primarily involves deals with outside developers. Sony, which has double the internal development staff, has begun to rely more on bringing exclusives from within.

Bethesda: We prefer the 360

360achievements - August 1, 2008

If you're a games journalist like me, you end up going to quite a few press events for upcoming games. The more you attend, the more tricks you pick up, but one thing you may also notice is that a lot of developers like testing their games on the 360. (If it's slated for a 360 release.) No-one is more notorious for this then Bethesda.

I interviewed an individual who has worked on the Xbox 360 project for many years. We were able to have an in-depth interview. Just keep in mind that a while back I broke the story that Bungie was leaving Microsoft and had all the details a full week before the official PR announcement Once again I have a confidential source from inside Redmond and it all checks out to me.
