According to the article, the Wii has become the fastest selling console in the UK, reaching 1 million consoles sold after just 38 weeks of sale. In comparison, the PS2 took 11 more weeks to reach that milestone while the 360 took 22 more weeks. All figures are from Chart-Track.

At a BMO Capital Markets event for game companies and investors earlier this month, Reggie Fils-Aime presented two slides that, based on Nintendo of America research, put the population of female "primary players" of home consoles at roughly a third of the population of their male counterparts. Of course, Fils-Aime brought this up in order to demonstrate how much of that market is dominated by female Nintendo console-owners: 80% or, roughly, nine million.

Wii to pass 50 Million in Sales this month

Japanese financial news source Nikkei.net predicts that the Nintendo Wii will break 50 million in worldwide sales this month. This latest milestone means that the Wii will have sold faster than the PS2 did during its first three years when Sony achieved 50 million PlayStation 2 consoles shipped.

According to the team, who are often aware of Nintendo-related events well before their official announcement, "Nintendo is internally struggling with Wii MotionPlus, trying to figure out a few hiccups" which would delay the release of the peripheral past its original June release date. In addition to the hardware delays, it was also rumoured that Wii Sports Resort would be pushed back along with it.

Pachter predict 3.25 Million Wii sold In Dec

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter says that, with Wii supplies significantly increased over the holiday season, the console sold an estimated 3.25 million units last month. Pachter estimates 1.35 million Xbox 360 consoles, and 750,000 PS 3 consoles. Pachter predicts a $2.625 billion sales month for December 2008, a 10 percent increase over the year prior, with $2.42 billion in next-gen software sales.

Nintendo's Wii has emerged as one of the few hot products this holiday season, and Wal-Mart will offer "tens of thousands" of the hard-to-get video game consoles on its Web site starting on Monday. Walmart.com said it will offer the Nintendo Wii console for $249.24, and a "value bundle," which includes the console and other items like an extra set of controllers, for $329, while supplies last.
