On March 4, DQIX will join the Ultimate Hits lineup of budget releases. This version of the game will carry a ¥2,940 price point, down significantly from the game's current ¥5,980 pricing. That day will also see Ultimate Hits versions of Dragon Quest IV, Dragon Quest V, and Final Fantasy IV. These will also carry a ¥2,940 price point. Square Enix also announced today that the Ultimate Hits series has, as of December, topped the 2.5 million mark in total sales.

IGN Preview "In DQIX, monsters (including classic creatures like "Slime") move about freely over the fields of play. When you approach these creatures, they take notice of you and come in for attack. You fight directly on the field using direct attacks rather than selecting options from a menu, making this more on an action RPG than an RPG."

Release month dated

Famitsu - October 1, 2008

DQIX dated for March 2009. It is unfortunate that Square Enix didn't give the date, but this mean that the first week sales of the game will count toward SE's Fiscal Year revenue calculation.

Despite my qualms, I came away from the DQ9 booth with a feeling of relief. The simple, intrinsic single-player DQ experience remains completely unaffected by either hardware specs or multiplayer modes. I've played enough Dragon Quests to know that I'll enjoy my latest outing with Horii, Toriyama, and Koichi Sugiyama...in all likelihood, just as much as I have in the past. If the final version's multiplayer does turn out to be something great, it will just be icing on the cake.
