He predicts that DS's total installed base in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. could reach reach an "ultimate potential" of 152.2 million units, driven by strong European sales and the system's "gaming population expansion."

According to a report from Nikkei Net, Nintendo will introduce a new iteration of the Nintendo DS later this year, featuring a built-in camera and music playback. The new version of the DS is also reported to have improved wireless functions. Pictures taken via the DS's internal camera can be used by games, opening up new gameplay options.

Nintendo has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that the company shipped almost 200,000 DSi units for the Japanese launch of the console on November 1, priced at JPY 18,900. It boasts a built-in web browser allowing users to access the DSi Shop, a camera and improved audio functions, a slot for SD memory cards and a slightly larger screen. Another shipment of 100,000 units will be done this week. US and Europe released is not expected until summer 2009 at the earliest.
