Empire Brings Myst DS Stateside

The game that captured the hearts and minds of millions of players around the world back in 1993 has returned yet again, as Empire Interactive announces Cyan World's classic point and click adventure game Myst for the Nintendo DS, coming to North America this March. Released late last year in Europe to a somewhat lukewarm receptions, Myst DS is a recreation of the original game that includes re-mastered video and a whole new age to explore in the Rime Age.

It's going to be a dual-screened Christmas down here this summer. Just look at all those DS games! Phantom Hourglass is kept out of the top spot only by some Halo game, Drawn To Life miraculously enters at #3 and in total six of the top ten games are for Nintendo's handheld.

Nintendo 3DS FCC Filing Emerges

According to reports this week, Mitsumi, a primary manufacturer for Nintendo, has submitted several FCC filings for an upcoming DS handheld, which many believe is the new 3D-enabled 3DS.

Since Launch on Nov 21, there are 103,524 DSi LL sold in Japan up to Nov 22, a 2 days duration, according to Famitsu. LTD of DS (Lite + DSi) in Japan is 28,191,716 (since December 2 2004 - November 15 2009).

DSi: Two Million Served

DSi shows no sign of letting up in Japan. The latest sales milestone for the system is the two million mark, which Famitsu publisher Enterbrain announced today was reached over the week ending March 22. The DSi now has a userbase of 2,024,431 units in Nintendo's home territory, where it launched in November of last year.

DS to Reach 100 Million Sales This Month

According to Japanese economic newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the Nintendo DS will surpass 100 million in lifetime worldwide sales during the middle of March. As of December 31, 2008, the official global DS sales tally was 96.22 million.

Nintendo will launch DSi in the US on April 5, the company’s confirmed.The handheld will retail for $170.“Ever since the arrival of the first Game Boy, consumers worldwide have turned to Nintendo for their portable gaming,” said NoA sales boss Cammie Dunaway.“Nintendo DSi builds on Nintendo’s commitment to bringing fun and creative entertainment to everyone, and will allow consumers to personalize and share their very own experiences.”

UK Customs Warns Of Dangerous Fake Consoles

UK's HMRC says that hundreds of imported counterfeit consoles, mostly fake DS and DSL, were recently seized at UK freight depots. They were found to include adapters that the department deemed potentially dangerous, as they had not been electronically tested and do not meet UK safety standards. The price is around £40 ($59), instead of the usual retail price of £100 ($147). The sites claimed that the systems were "genuine Nintendo products." Nintendo found them to be counterfeit.

Compatibilty Issues DSi Vs DS?

Pocket Gamer has been told by one developer that there are propblems with one of its forthcoming games being compatible with the DSi hardware. The game in question has apparently been refused approval by Nintendo for 'freezing up' when played on DSi. If true should we expect there to be problems with the hundreds of games that have already been released on DS?

The Nintendo DS System will be coming out of the 2007 console race as the top gaming system. Yes, it beat out the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii and PSP. Nintendo is proclaiming the win, and rightfully so. According to 2007's DS sales, one DS is sold every 5 seconds. More than 6 million DS systems have sold in the US from January to November 30, 2007. A few DS games have broken the 2 million unit sales mark, which include New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, Pokémon Diamond...
