"The two will be bundled with copies of the system's best-selling games, with a rose DS paired with Nintendogs and the gold DS packed with a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Each features a decoration on the outside of the top half, the former a paw print, the latter a Triforce."

DS breaks UK sales record

Nintendo DS has become the biggest-selling games hardware in UK chart history, surpassing 10 million units sold, MCV can reveal. The device hit the milestone in week 47 of this year according to GfK-ChartTrack data, taking it past the record held by Sony’s PS2. UK unit sales of PS2 stand at 10.02 million to date, whilst DS has already hit 10.05 million. DS has been on the UK market since March 2005. PS2 launched nine years ago in November 2000.

DSi Sold 435,000 in NA So Far

Nintendo have revealed that since going on sale the DSi has sold 435,000 units in the United States. To put that in perspective, they say that after the same amount of time on the market, the DS Lite had sold "only" 226,300 units.

We've picked up on the fact many of you aren't feelin' the DSi. But you know what? Lots of other people are, because according to GameStop, pre-orders for the handheld are off the charts. According to GameStop senior vice president Bob McKenzie, DSi pre-orders are double the size of the original DS:

DSi to launch in Europe on April 3

Nintendo is to release the latest in it series of handheld consoles, the DSi, in Europe on April 3. The company has said that is does not officially set recommended retail prices for its products, but stores in the UK are already listing the DSi with a price of GBP 149. Comment: April 3 is before the US release?

DS closes in on 9m UK sales

GfK-ChartTrack has revealed to MCV that the Nintendo DS is teetering on the edge of a nine-million installed base in the UK. And director Dorian Bloch said that he believed the imminent launch of successor the DSi will give those numbers yet more of a boost. He told MCV: “We’re approaching nine million total DS units sold in the UK. It was at 8.8 million at the end of ‘08, so should pass that number by the end of ’09.

Limited to Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, for the time being, the supposed handheld equivalent to the Wii's NES and SNES playing feature would take advantage of the Game Boy Advance slot on the lower half of the DS.

If this image showing an email circulated amongst GameStop stores is legit, then the humble Nintendo DS Lite may now be a thing of the past. Having been first succeeded by two models of the DS, the DSi and DSi XL, and now by an all-new handheld, the 3DS, the writing has been on the wall for a while now regarding the future of the DS Lite.
