"The new PSP firmware also hints at upcoming 2.00 firmware for the PlayStation 3, but Sony did not provide a date for the new PS3 update." Very exciting news for people like me, who bought the new PSP for the remote play function.

Skype functionality coming to PSP

videogamer.com -

Submitted by NeoZero (551) at 9:58AM PST on January 2, 2008

"Sony's CES 2008 section of its website has revealed that the PSP is to be updated with Skype functionality. Although offering little info, Skype support is clear to see in a list of things you can do with a PSP. "Call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers or catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP system," states the Sony website. Presumably we can expect an announcement and further details on Skype integration during CES, which runs January 7-10."

Kotaku - October 21, 2008

New PSP, new problems. The recently released PSP-3000 does get rid of the PSP-2000's ghosting issues, but has issues all its own: On the official PlayStation forums, PSP-3000 owners are bringing word that the new PlayStation Portable suffers from scanlines and icky interlacing defects during video playback and gaming. One forum member writes, "I am not happy about my 'upgrade'." In an official statement, Sony says this is no accident.

Ridiculous PSP piracy numbers

psp fanboy - March 9, 2008

Piracy is ruining the PSP. Although quality titles continue to come out on the handheld, many have been wondering: where are the software sales? Rlan from NeoGAF took a look at just one torrent site and found the number of downloads of PSP games to be absolutely disgusting.

Today, chart data from Famitsu based on software and console sales for last week (March 24-30th) shows what sort of impact Monster Hunter 2nd Portable G has had on console sales in Japan. Last week PSP actually managed to sell more units than all of its competitor consoles put together. The handheld sold approximately 139,000 units, compared to (rounded up or down) 57,000 DSs, 49,000 Wiis, 13,000 PS3s and 2,800 Xbox 360s.
