NPD: PC Retail Games decline 14pc in 2008

GameDaily - January 16, 2009

Submitted by deftangel (291) at 5:28AM PST on January 16, 2009

While the console video game market has been soaring (as demonstrated by the just released NPD 2008 totals), PC game sales aren't so hot – from a retail perspective, that is. The NPD Group has revealed to GameDaily BIZ that PC games totaled just $701 million in 2008, which is down 14 percent from 2007. It's important to keep in mind, however, that this NPD data concerns retail data only.

Joystiq - January 15, 2009

The games industry is still growing, but that growth slowed considerably towards the end of 2008, with 9% growth in August, 12% in October and 8% in November. Most embarrassing was September, which actually saw a 7% decline. And with that, we've just passed 80 words, which is the maximum amount of time we're able to focus on economics without blacking out.

Consoles 'unlikely to make a big impact in India'

gamesindustry - January 13, 2009

FXLabs CEO and founder, Sashi Reddi, has told GamesIndustry.biz that he doesn't think that consoles as a platform will become a dominant force in the Indian gaming market in the same that they have in other markets. Instead he believes that the development of broadband internet, combined with a blossoming home PC installed base, is far more likely to provide a more suitable basis for the country's entertainment.

‘FIFA 09’ holds on to No1 in the All Formats Chart as the top 3 are all non-movers for a second consecutive week. The gap between FIFA and ‘COD:WaW’ at No2 has now shrunk from 5,000 to 400 units. 'Need for Speed: Undercover' sticks at No3. Sales of almost all Top 40 titles more than halve, except 'Wii Fit', jumping up from No20 to No4. All Top 40 games lose sales, but ‘Wii Fit’ only drops by 1%. For list, see comment.
