Rumor : Square Enix Japan To Cut 200 to 300 Jobs

Kotaku - September 28, 2009

Submitted by mrahaju (9) at 9:39AM PST on September 29, 2009

The company behind the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, Square Enix, is rumored to be trimming down its workforce. Apparently, somewhere between 200 and 300 Square Enix Japan employees will lose their jobs. If true, this could simply be a corporate reorganization after the acquisition of Eidos Interactive, which is schedule to be renamed Square Enix Europe. Taito is also under the Square Enix Japan umbrellas, so these rumored lay-offs could also be Taito-related.

Game console price cuts cause sales explosion

Yahoo - September 24, 2009

Submitted by afsplat (130) at 12:32PM PST on September 25, 2009

As holiday shopping season gets started (yes, folks, now that "back to school" is over, it's really all about Christmas), Sony is already celebrating. Its $100 price cut on the PlayStation 3 (and the flood of advertising that was launched along with it) has sent sales soaring, with unit sales up 300 percent in the three weeks prior to September 1. Revenue over that time is up 140 percent, not as much as unit sales due to the lower prices, but still an impressive leap.

Leading publishers & trade body ELSPA last month told MCV that the time was right to introduce digital charts in the UK, through GfK-ChartTrack. Now NPD wants to offer charts for PC, console & even mobile across the Atlantic. The NPD Group won’t yet confirm how quickly the charts will be created – but ruled out a merged retail and digital chart.
