Nielsen: Gaming time, used game sales at all-time high

In a recently released report (PDF), Nielsen Media Research claims that, despite poor economic conditions, gamers are actually spending more time playing games in 2009 than they have in previous years. In fact, the number of hours spent per week playing games is at an all-time high.

Analyst: We Could Be in the Final 'Console Cycle'

The current generation of game consoles could constitute the last "console cycle" as we know it, says Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter. In a massive 210-page report entitled "Money for Nothing: How Ancillary Revenues Can Extend the Console Cycle," the widely-read industry pundit and financial guru pontificates on most every facet of the videogame industry in 2009.

UK Charts: Fight Night Round 4 Hits Top Spot

EA's Fight Night Round 4 has debuted atop the UK chart, in the process becoming the first boxing title to reach the all formats number one position. Last week's top three - Prototype, The Sims 3 and Wii Fit - each fell one place, while UFC 2009: Undisputed jumped two spots to round off the top five.

Rumour PS3, 360 price drops coming this fall

The Mole gives up the goods on Sony and Microsoft hardware plans this fall: price drops on both systems, with the 160GB PS3 model replacing the 80GB model before the PS3 Slim is released. Expect the Elite to replace the Pro models on the 360 side after Microsoft adjusts prices as well. New bundles are coming as well.

ZeniMax Media, parent company of Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls development studio Bethesda Softworks, announced today that it is purchasing legendary Doom and Wolfenstein studio id.

Analyst Predicts Wii & PS3 Price Cuts, 360 Cut/Bundle

Pachter says, "In order to hit its full-year Wii shipment forecast, we expect Nintendo to cut the price of the Wii before [the] holiday, likely to $199.99." "In the second half of the year, we expect Sony to cut price for the PS3, and if the cut is deep enough, we expect Microsoft to respond (either with bundles or with a price cut of its own, even as Microsoft just introduced a Xbox 360 Elite bundle with free games Halo 3 and Fable II)."
