After initial rumors regarding a leaked Circuit City ad selling 60GB PS3s for $499, an anonymous merchandising manager has confirmed that the price cut for the PS3 is retail-wide. According to the report, this price drop will be effective on July 12. An official announcement from Sony is sure to be forthcoming during their E3 press conference next week.

Retailers are getting at most $20 from each console. A $100 price drop will be a huge loss for them.
If we were going with this single ad, yes, the wording would be suspect. But with the 'confirmation' of the price-cut being retail-wide, it's becoming more believable.

If it WAS permanent across the board wouldn't is just say something like:
New Price $499 WAS $599

Hopefully this will prompt Microsoft to drop the Xbox360 price by $100 too... The Xbox360 really needs a pricecut to get it selling again...

I just don't see this drop having as big an effect as sony may think. ps3 will still be the dearest priced console on the market. it just makes it that bit more attainable[ Elite ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 225 ]bids
