October 9: The Xbox 360 Pro package will come with Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance as pack-ins. The games will be in one case, similar to the Sega GT 2002/Jet Grind Radio Future combo disc that was packed-in with the original Xbox for a time, but in this case each game will come on its own DVD.
October 23: The Elite will get the same package. No price drops on either system, you just get two free games with it.
New Xbox Core Sku "at the end of October" that will include a new version of the system with an HDMI port, wireless controller, 256MB memory card, and five arcade games on a physical disc. The games will be Boom-Boom Rocket, Pac-man, Uno, Feeding Frenzy, and Luxor 2. This package is expected to retail for the normal Core price of $279.99.

My machine died with the RROD and the replacement although not a new chipset came with a very much quieter DVD unit and much quieter fans. It is not silent but it no longer impedes when watching movies even during the quiet moments.
So in answer to you points the Quieter units are already available and if you picked up the new model with the HDMI port I would imagine that it will be much better than the one you have seen to date. These very same units have also addressed the RROD failure rates.
The only thing worth waiting for now if buying new is the smaller chips and unless that comes with a smaller house brick for power that probably is not worth the wait.
As for Just_Ben I personally would not buy a Wii because it provides nothing to me that my PC and 360 combi does not do. I did my Mario thing in the 80s and to be honest I am gobsmacked that anyone bar a few reliving their youth would care much for this console but then I guess not everyone is an ageing gamer like myself.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 60 ]bids

Ok :o) I understand you, I personal would not buy a 360. It can't give me anything thats worth 350€ to me, that I can't cover with PC/Wii combination. Well maybe if GTA get not ported at all to PC I will get one in the end of the generation (cheap) just to play the GTA's.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 112 ]bids

I like the 360. I've played it and enjoyed it...there's a ton of games out (or coming out) that I want to play such as Gears, Crackdown, Dead Rising, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, etc. And I think the Live Arcade service is one of the brightest ideas Microsoft has had for their gaming division.
However, I'm irritated that Microsoft has failed to implement the better chipsets that were talked about over a year ago and have yet to fix the noise level (and hardware failures) of their console. Knowing that fixes to such issues are bound to be around the corner, I've held off on picking up a 360. Well thats nice. Always god to have choices. I think this generation is the best generation in the market, because the consumer has a bunch of things to choose from. Everybody can choose that what suites him most. And for the Mario thing: The only Mario game I will most likely buy is Galaxy. Maybe Brawl, but I'm not so sure about that yet. At the moment I have MP3 high on my list, but I have to wait a month. Sometimes it sucks to live in Europe :o) I bought the Wii for motion and pointer ability (most). So sport and shooter/adventure I want. RE:UC is a must have for me e.g.
