Sony said it sold 75,000 PS3s on the week of October 29 and 100,000 more units the following week in the US, prompted by the price cut of the 80GB model and the launch of the 40GB model.

So the 100k figure included PS2 sales? I guess it would be logical to think that the 75k figure also included the PS2, which would make more sense for the October NPD figure.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 288 ]bids

Seems the reporter sent an email to Sony to clarify the numbers quoted by AP. This is what the reporter just told me.
Colin, the e-mail was sent to me to confirm figures in an Associated Press story that quoted the company as saying it ``sold more than 100,000 consoles of all
types in the week ending Nov. 11.''
So it looks like the reporter did his due diligence and unless this Sony rep didn't understand the question she is saying the 100k included the PS2.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 475 ]bids

I'm thinking it is supposed to say:
...including the older PlayStation 3

"The price cut and new model helped Sony increase sales of all consoles including the older PlayStation 2 to 100,000 units in the week ended Nov. 11, spokeswoman Kimberly Otzman said in an e-mail."[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 288 ]bids

I have a bone to pick with one of Sony's comments in the report but I did not want to muddle the article submission. This sentence in particular:
"Sony said it had been selling between 30,000 and 40,000 consoles per week before the Oct. 18 price cut."
In the September NPD period, the PS3 sold 119k units in a 5-week period, or 24k per week. I find it hard to believe that the weekly sales would increase prior to an announced price cut. If anything, the sales should actually decrease. This makes me seriously question the veracity of their figures.
I would hazard a guess of 20k PS3s sold weekly for 3 weeks plus the 75k they reportedly sold due to the price cut on the last week of the October NPD period. A possible 135k (13.5 DKP) for the PS3 this Friday, then?
