RE: Leading Developers Reveal PS3's Untapped PotentialThe PS3 is known to be more difficult to code for, like it's predecessor PS2 which if you look at early titles on that system compared to later titles like God of War, the difference was staggering. The Xbox 360 and Wii are more easy to extract good performance from so should theoretically have less room to grow in their demonstrable power relatively speaking.
Wether any developer will ever spend enough effort to show the potential power of PS3 is an entirely different matter.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 5 ]bids

That is true, but it is even more so with the PS3 because its specs are an even greater leap of what was available at the time of its release. Especially, as for Wii titles, 1st generation games have probably already utilized a significant % of its HW possibilities. For example Mario Galaxy may utilize 50-90% of Wii's ability, only because the HW is very similar to GC which Nintendo has already worked on since before 2001 in development time.
Also, they stated that "things we’ve not even thought of may end up best demonstrating PS3's power" whereas in the past on consoles like PS2 & XB1, the developers knew ahead of time what would demonstrate the power of those systems best, whereas with PS3 the potential is so large that its open to new technical feats not thought of yet.
The usage of as little as 20% of PS3's power by leading developers/publishers is probably a greater difference than leading 1st generation titles on consoles in the past. PS2/XB1 1st generation titles by leading developers/publishers most likely utilized greater numbers in the likelihood of 30-50%.[ Oracle ] [ Level 26 ] [ Rank: 241 ]bids

IIRC, it is standard that the first generation game usually only tap a low percentage of H/W capability. Second generation game will usually tap higher %, while last generation will use almost 90% - 100% of H/W capabilities. This happen with every H/W, including X360 and Wii.

Yes that is also true, forgot about that. A good comparison is the Sega Saturn, which had parallel processors. It was hard to code for and its later titles were even more impressive over its earliest titles than even the difference in PS2 early to late titles. Such that it allowed Sega to recode the same games and sell them years later with huge improvements in graphics.
The whole deal with Sega Saturn was impressive, especially considering it had to be abandoned before it could've reached its prime in game development. Thus, good news for seeing PS3 titles improvement in the next year or two. PS3 won't be a Sega Saturn redux at all IMO.
