"An Associated Press business article, dedicated mostly to the impending conclusion of that stupid, distracting "format war", has buried in its conclusion some PS3 sales figures. According to the piece, Sony have now sold 10.5 million PS3 consoles since launch. Which is good news for them, as it puts them squarely on track to meet their goal of selling 11 million by the end of March, a target they set themselves last December."

BTW...these 10.5 sold are as of Dec 31 2007 as reported on Jan 31. SONY reports 'sold through' to retailer and has back adjusted their earlier reports that were 'sold to warehouse'...This puts them inline with MS in terms of reporting and for comparison sake.

I'm just surprised that no one at SE picked up that story back on Jan 31 and more surprised that Kotaku is picking it up 2 weeks later.

Has it been previously posted on the simExchange?

Having just recently come back to SE I'm surprised this news wasn't already known here....Kotaku, for some reason is picking up news today from Jan 31st when SONY released its Q3 results.

Not quite sure about Nintendo, but as of right now, I doubt that they have any issues with selling consoles that they produce because of the shortage in supply. The worry is more of how much they are producing, where that stock is going, and if any are being stockpiled. I would think that Nintendo reports in a similar fashion though.
It is nice to know that Sony and Microsoft are currently reporting sales numbers in the same way (makes it easier for us to do comparisons).
At least it looks like Sony is going to be able to basically meet their forecasts for the PS3 sales numbers for the end of their current fiscal year in March.
